碩士 === 東吳大學 === 音樂學系 === 99 === The research of lyric opera Werther at 1887s wrote by J. Massenet（1842-1912） and the primary intention lies in discusses two arias of mezzo-soprano. Based on the German novel The Sorrows of Young Werther by Goethe.Which Which divides into following chapters. The first chapter introduces the characteristics of the lyric opera and the music composition of Massenet. The second chapter is focus on the interaction between music and drama, then analyzes the characteristic of the script and creation background. The third chapter presents the musical analysis such as music structure, melody, harmony, cadence, meter, rhythm, dynamics, density, texture, and motive. The last chapter analyzes the relation between lyrics and music and discussing the singing style with interpretation. The research will end with the conclusion on overall success of lyric opera Werther.
