碩士 === 東吳大學 === 音樂學系 === 99 === 　　The Golden Melody Awards found by Government Information Office (GIO) in 1990 intends to promote the creating of music. To support and recognize the creation of traditional art and music, GIO classified the Awards into popular and non-popular categories at the 8th Awards, and later renamed the non-popular category as traditional and art music category at the 12th Awards with a strong intention to continue and reinforce the development of the traditional music in Taiwan. 　　The purpose of the study is aimed to explore the position and development of traditional music in the Golden Melody Awards by examining the evolution of its related awards over the past two decades. This paper contains seven chapters. The first chapter is about the motivation and hypothesis of the study. The second chapter focuses on the definition, classification and development of traditional music, as well as the history of the Golden Melody Awards and its categories. The third chapter discusses GIO’s thinking and efforts on traditional and art music category through the analysis of the qualification for the Awards. While based on collected materials and interviews, the four to six chapters deal with the position and future development of traditional music –related awards in traditional and art music category. The final chapter ends to be the evaluation and prospect of the Awards.
