Summary: | 碩士 === 中國文化大學 === 俄國語文學系 === 99 === The analysis and classification of good and bad behaviors from the same animal characters in Russian and Non-Russian fairytales
If you want to understand one country or one race, the best way to do is read the literature from them. And from all kinds of literatures, the most easy one to read is fairy tale. In English language, the word “nursery story” also presents fairy tale, because of it is the story which been told by the parents and the nannies before the children go sleep.
For most of children, fairy tale is the first step to the world of literature. Because the fairy tale not only represents the culture and the history of one race, but also represents the humanities.
Children are easily get influenced by the behaviors of the characters from fairy tales which they read earlier. They will curious about what they see in the real world, and get interested to the real life, and it is all because of the fairy tales. Fairy tale is the one from all literatures which contained all kind of possibilities. It could be just a fantasy, or it could be a history.
Russian Literature plays an important role in the world. Just like the country- Russia, it contains a lot of races and their own cultures, which you can feel and understand when you are reading Russian literatures.
It is the same idea to the fairy tale, which contains so many types of elements, for example: culture, history, funny, and fantasy. Fairy tale is the limitless world which created by the most simple words. The author could create a world which mixed by his own imaginations and realities.
Anthropomorphic – the key element in fairy tales – it not only made the animal speaks, but also presents the feelings from the human like us on the animal characters in the fairy tales.
And the animal characters could be the helpers for the protagonist in the fairy tale, for example : the gray wolf from the Russian fairy tale “Tsarevich Ivan, the Fire bird, and the Gray wolf ” , or they could present the evil side to against the protagonist in the fairy tale, for example: the wolf from “Little Red Ridding hood” .They both presents good and bad side of humanities.
The famous Russian scholar Vladimir Propp said ” The animal fairy tales are created with simple behaviors, which are the base of the story. And the fairy tale end with non-complicated way always.” In the stories, the animal characters are parted by good and bad. But it’s not always that easy to figure out which animal represents good or bad. Because the same race of animal could represents good, but it could be the other case in other stories. And it is the key point in this research.
In this research, I choose five races of animal which are meaningful in Russian culture, including: Bear, Fox, Wolf, Cat, and Rooster. Compare the imaginations and the good or bad behaviors which presented by the animals from Russian fairy tales with the same races of animal characters from non-Russian fairy tales.
In the third chapter of this research, the Russian fairy tales are mostly come from the Russian author Alexander Afanasyev, and the part of non-Russian fairy tales are from the world famous German authors- Brothers Grimm.
With the fairy tales I choose from Russian literature and non-Russian literature, the animal characters will be analyzed and classified to two parts- Good or Bad, which based on the their behaviors in the stories. By this research, I wish that I could get more sense about the meaning of the animal in the culture, and get more information of the area and the culture.
