The as–dried gels began to form ZnAl2O4 structure after heating at 300oC. Homogeneous single-phase ZnAl2O4 was obtained with average grain size of about 10 ~ 40 nm after heating at 300 ~ 1200oC. With increasing heat-treatment temperature at 300 ~ 1200oC, the crystallinity was promoted and the grain size was growth. However, the concentration of activator did not remarkably affect the crystallinity of ZnAl2O4 phosphors. The PL spectra exhibited blue emission bands under an excitation in ultraviolet region for doped phosphors.
