The digital divide on the level of elementary school could be a microcosm of the future uneven development of Taiwan society. With a comparative research schema, this study attempts to investigate the digital divide issue through three sociological approaches: urban and rural gap, education system, and environmental resources. Specifically, this research implement Dijk's model and relative theories to clarify the relations between information literacy, digital divide and the urban-rural gap in consideration of their effects on resource distribution. As a main finding, this research confirms that the digital divide does exist between children of different cities. The different requirements on information skills at school play an important role, while the social-economic background of the students could be the crucial variable in explaining the social causes of the digital divide.
