Summary:碩士 === 國立高雄大學 === 高階經營管理碩士在職專班(EMBA) === 99 === In the 21st century, distant water tuna logline fishing vessels are facing the difficulties with high fuel price, lacking of labor and limitations from the regulations of Regional Fisheries Management Organizations (RFMOs). This research was based on the in-depth interview with five current South Atlantic tuna fishing vessel owners, by applying the SWOT (Strengths, Weakness, Opportunities and Threats) analysis to provide these owners strategies and suggestions in how to operate tuna fishing vessels effectively. SWOT analysis matrix shows: 1. SO Maxi-Maxi strategies: Taiwanese longline tuna fishing vessels are competitive internationally with the strengths of fishing fleet, professional supervisors and automatic fishing system. 2. ST: Maxi-Mini strategies: cooperate the agreement signed between the government and RFMOs, train new foreign crew members to the higher rankings and make good use of automatic fishing system to reduce labor cost. 3. WO: Mini-Maxi strategies:With the decreasing of vessels and production, fish prices have increased; alliance cooperates to reduce costs by group buying shipping supplies, fuel and machinery repairs etc. 4. WT: Mini-Mini:Simplify fishing fleet, develop new fish market and maintain positive image for our deep sea fishery, strive for fish quota and be competitive.
