In recent years, it is not uncommon for the damages of electrical/mechanical systems during earthquakes, which has often led to the partial or complete loss of the function of building structures. It is therefore the aim of this study to evaluate the seismic resistance of an emergency power generator isolated by a spring vibration isolation system which has been commonly used for the electrical/mechanical system in structures to minimize the transmission of vibration of the operating electrical/mechanical system to the floor system. Experimental study including the cyclic loading tests and shaking table tests has been conducted for a full scale power generator supported by four sets of spring vibration isolators (YS-2-2400A). The hysteretic behavior and seismic responses of the isolation system is investigated. In addition the damage mechanism of the isolator is also identified. Besides, additional restrainer to enhance the seismic resistance (YS-7500EL) is added to the vibration isolation system.
