This thesis is divided into three parts. First of all, we compare the color gamut of LCD and PDP systems, which includes the display systems of wide-color-gamut color signal (x.v.YCC) and general YCC color signal. The results showed x.v.YCC color signal can enlarge color gamut, especially for LCD system. The second part is to discuss the color gamut variations of LCD and PDP when ambient light factor is considered. The analysical results showed the color gamut volume in CIE LAB color space is reduced when they are watched in bright room. Especially for the PDP systems, the color gamut volume reduction ratio is larger than general LCD. Finally, we proposed a flare model of display system, named Method 1. It consideres the screen flare coming from ambient light as the normalized tristimulus values of display’s white multiplied by the average flare factor of 25 test patches . We compared the predicted color data with the measured color data. The average ΔE*ab color difference value of 25 color patches was 4.4. Moreover, in order to reduce the color error of the predicted data, we classified the total test patches into three lightness groups according their lightness levels, named Method 2. Then we used 3 kinds of flare factors to replace one average flare factor. Comparing the color differences between Method 1 and Method 2, the ΔE* ab of Method 2 is smaller than Method 1.
