An analysis is conducted on the Flickr data to determine its applicability for use in this research. Finally, using a “Historegion” interactive visualization system, it presents a “global photo amount chart” and “photo flow” by capturing data from Flickr and its storage of photos. This allows viewers to observe the reality of human activities in politics, economy, culture, military, and other customary forms.
The “Historegion” interactive visualization system captures and analyzes the photo database of Flickr. Creating a 3D interactive broadcast of a “global photo amount chart” between 2006 and 2010, it identifies and arranges the most popular photos of each month by time. It forms a real-time “photo flow” level of interaction, so that the relationship between photos and global cultures can be observed. Through the global photo amount chart formed by the “Historegion” interactive visualization system, one can see the rapid increase in photos over time, as well as the close relation between their distribution and economic development. The photo flow also shows the customs of regions around the world and different appearances in the occurrence of major events.
