Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺灣藝術大學 === 造形藝術研究所 === 99 === Any artistic creation that expresses its unique attraction and vitality requires the creators’ abundant sentiment. Time changes; our aesthetics and sensory experiences change correspondingly. Artists have to be innovative enough to present the spirit and various features of contemporary art. This creative thesis aims at presenting the “Space Imagery” of calligraphy. By means of different media and carriers, I transform the mental sentiments derived from the experiences of life into calligraphy. My creation is founded on the spirit of traditional calligraphy. Taking the contemporary creative ideas as my approach, I combine the ink lines and spatial forms of Chinese characters with the concept and design principles of western abstract art. I try to present calligraphy in a more modern style, focusing on its property of pure visual art.
The thesis is composed of five chapters. The first chapter includes motivation and purpose of research, the content of research and methodology.
The second chapter contains literature reviews and theoretical basis. The literature reviews includes calligraphic composition analysis, historical context of calligraphic style analysis, and the discussion on expression of modernity in calligraphy. They are some of the ingredients of my artistic creation.
The third chapter explains the idea of “The Sentiment Transformed.” This chapter presents the idea of creation, the philosophical approach, and the style of the creative content.
The fourth chapter analyses the creation pieces. My creation consists of four series, which comprises “space division,” “trapezoid style,” “minimalist style” and “continuous transformation.” I will explain the form and ways of expression of each series in turn.
The fifth chapter is my reflections and envisagement, in which I explain my personal reflections on creation and my visions on calligraphy in the future.
