The purpose of my creating work is to explore the interaction of spirit and nature. I try to express my internal image by painting. They were mainly figure paintings of natural landscape and cattle. No human figures were present, however, it insinuated something that correlated with human mind image. According to Santauana’s theory: “Beauty is the outcome of the unification of soul and nature.” My work of art were based on the principle of the unification of spirit and material. Not to imitate nature, but to symbolize something, I tried to express my internal perception intuitively. The focus was on atmosphere and empathy, as I communicated with nature, transformation of images were performed. Through the combination of art and visual theory, I tried to express my subjective intuition, rational thinking and emotional imagination by my paintings. I had studied the masterworks of the Eastern and the Western landscape. I put my personal symbolic language and used simple forms to present natural landscape, so that a tranquil, mystical and lonesome scene could be obtained. Introduction, Chapter 1,2,3 and Conclusion were the five parts of this thesis. At the Introduction, I explained the motivation, the purpose, the contents and my painting works between 2007-2011. In Chapter 1, I explored the nature view of Eastern and Western world. The development of landscape paintings in Eastern and Western art history, gave me a basic knowledge upon which to create my works. Chapter 2 referred to the creative ideas, which included the management of the atmosphere of landscape, intuition theory and empathy theory, subconsciousness, imagination. Chapter 3. included the contents and the form of my works. It discussed the surmounting psychic space, the emotional symbol of my series work and analyzed the atmosphere as well. In conclusion, a summary was made for the process of creating. Hopefully further development and self-questioning will be inspired, so that the lost soul of modern human beings will be retrieved.
