The realizable orthogonal MR modulation schemes can offer the same error performance as the square-root-raised-cosine-pulsed modulation scheme, while providing prevailing bandwidth efficiencies by using sufficiently large block sizes. In this thesis, two self-cancellation schemes are proposed to suppress the effect of intersymbol interference (ISI) caused by pulse truncation and timing offset in the orthogonal MR receiver. The system performance characteristics are evaluated based on signal-to-interference ratio, bit error rate, peak-to-average power ratio and implementation complexity. It is shown that both self-cancellation schemes are effective in suppressing the effect of intersymbol interference without trading off peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) and implementation complexity significantly.
