Qualitative approach was applied in the research while discourse analysis proposed by Van Dijk was used as the theoretical basis to discuss the characteristics and the standpoints presented in the “title,” “content” and “editorial page” of reports relating to ECFA in “Want-daily.” Moreover, unstandardized in-depth interviews were carried out on managers and journalists of Want-daily and experts to discuss the changes in news discourse construction and reporting viewpoint as Want-daily faced the cross-strait development that changed along with the up-and-down of cross-strait politics since its first issue. It was found in the research that the reports in Want-daily mainly focused on cross-strait financial news and was relatively cautious when reporting political issues. During the cross-strait ECFA negotiation period, the standpoint of Want-daily in supporting the government was clear. The reporting and editing styles represented in the reports were flexible which allowed the readers to feel they were reading something fun every time. As Want-daily belongs to Want Want China Times Group, it was able to use the advantages of the Group to carry out horizontal integration and bring out the largest combined media effects. Want-daily showed high expectations for future benign cross-strait development and will keep the current development structure at the present stage. Want-daily will pose itself as “the only professional cross-strait financial paper media” to compete for the discourse right of cross-strait news and will not take sales volume as the main consideration. Follow-up research on news discourse analysis may refer to the analysis structure in the research and use news schema as the basis to summarize clear systematic discourse for different research targets to understand the way news value and ideology are “processed” and “screened” in news production and create more possibilities for the theoretical development of discourse analysis.
