| Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺北教育大學 === 音樂學系碩士班 === 99 === This thesis is focused on the research and interpretation of Dominick Argento’s song cycles “Casa Guidi”. It is divided into five chapters as followed. The first chapter is Introduction, mainly stating author’s motivations, purposes, research range and methods of this study. The second chapter concentrates on Dominick Argento’s life and the characteristics of his music. The third chapter recites the biography of Elizabeth Barrett Browning who is the poet of this song cycle, the relationship and interaction Elizabeth and Casa Guidi. The fourth chapter which subdivides into six sections is the main part of this thesis. The first section is the introduction of its composing background and the techniques of the song cycle “Casa Guidi”; the second to the sixth section illustrate analysis of the composition and the musical interpretation of five songs in this song cycle, including Casa Guidi, The Italian Cook and the English Maid, Robert Browning, The Death of Mr. Barrett, and Domesticity. The fifth chapter is the conclusion, the writer demonstrates composing characteristic and interpretation of the song cycle, hoping to provide writers and future researchers of Argento's song cycle with a better understanding and systematical resource.
