Nowadays, there are many service discovery mechanisms, which can be classified into three types: (1) UDDI-based service search; (2) semantic and rule-based service discovery; and (3) text-based service matching. However, these approaches do not simultaneously consider lexical similarity and semantic similarity, which are significant characteristics to decide whether a service can satisfy a service request. Therefore, we propose a novel web services searching approach using domain ontology and WordNet to measure similarity of capabilities and QoWS (Qualities of Web Services) attributes between a service query and a web service description based on open standards WSDL and SAWSDL. The proposed approach identified four phases to locate appropriate services, including query expansion, ontology mapping, text-based service exploration and service ranking. Using the proposed approach, both functional and non-functional features of web services are captured in the service discovering process by considering lexical similarity, semantic similarity, service I/O covering and QoWS satisfaction.
