A Study on the Relation of Caregiving and Perceived Fairness of Filial Responsibility to Self-Esteem of College Students in Taiwan

碩士 === 國立臺灣師範大學 === 教育心理與輔導學系 === 99 === The purpose of this study was to investigate the relation of caregiving and perceived fairness of filial responsibility to self-esteem of college students in Taiwan, and to examine whether perceived fairness moderated the relation of caregiving with self-esteem. The samples comprised 598 students including national and private colleges in Taiwan. “ Filial Responsibility Scale” and “Self-esteem Scale” were the instruments used in this study, and the obtained data set were analyzed by descriptive statistics, Pearson’s product-moment correlation and multiple hierarchical regression. The main findings are as follows: 1.There is no significant correlation between filial caregiving and self-esteem. 2.There is a positive significant correlation between perceived fairness and self-esteem, which means that the more the college students perceived their families to be fair, the higher self-esteem they reported. 3.Perceived fairness is not significantly moderate the relationship between filial caregiveing ahd self-esteem. Both caregiving and perceived fairness independently contribute to the variance in self-esteem. Furthermore, perceived fairness accounts for much more variance in self-esteem than caregiving. Finally, based on the results, implications of the study for counseling and parent education as well as suggestions for future research are proposed.
