It could be said they are the solid, crucial members of the social pyramid. Famous for its diligence and hardworking, Taiwan has transformed its laboring structure under the great impact of international changes. Hence, the study tries to analyze the contribution to the contemporary society arising from “realism” and the humanism as well as social concerns embodied in the paintings on laborers in order to comprehend the spiritual and aesthetic concept the artists representing the real world through their masterpieces. The result of this research also gives my creative works theoretical scaffolding. This study focuses on Taiwan laborers of the lowest social ladder, in majority, constructional laborers. In metropolitan area, with a lot of high risers and many constructional works going on, laborers are more often seen than farmers. Due to work demand, their figure is more masculine than those in other careers. Although their job is tough and their income modest, the laborers contribute through their physical strength to our society with dignity. The study of these paintings lies in presenting the shapes and colors existed in nature. First from the view of art sociology, this presentation deeply explores how the art and society interact with each other, and how artistic works can reflect, represent, associate and empathize with each other. Then, it explains the compound meaning of labor with natural art, labor with humanistic art, labor with spiritual projection. With the aesthetic combining ability, the elements of oil painting, the realistic graphic approach, the works intimately integrate laborers and the environment, man and nature, and represent persevering features silhouetting the hopes growing from their innermost being to demonstrate soul-stirring art.
