Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺南大學 === 特殊教育學系碩士班 === 99 === This study aims to discuss the usage and needs of screen reader for the visual impaired and compares the differences of the usage and needs for the visual impaired from various backgrounds. It also tries to understand the problems and opinions of the visual impaired when using the screen reader.
The researcher used the self-designed questionnaire “the usage and needs of screen reader” for the visual impaired to conduct this research. She telephoned one hundred and two samples ages from twelve to forty-five and the result of this research is listed below.
The result shows the difference of the usage and needs for the visual impaired from various backgrounds are obvious. For the severe and moderate visual impaired, the needs and the frequency of using the screen reader is high. Besides, the needs and the frequency of using the screen reader for the visual impaired who use audio books or Braille as the major reading media is high, too.
However, there aren’t obvious differences of the needs and the frequency of using the screen reader for the visual impaired of different gender, education, occupation and the time of becoming a visual impaired.
For situation of the needs and the frequency of using the screen readen for the visual impaired, the research reveals that the visual impaired’s needs toward the screen reader is higher than their use of the screen reader in the present.
According to the result of this research, the researcher provided some relevant suggestions for the educational institutions of the visual impaired, the research and development organizations of screen reader, and relevant governmental organizations.
