碩士 === 國立臺中教育大學 === 教育測驗統計研究所 === 99 === This study investigated the performance of the first-grade Vietnamese Children of Taiwan in mathematical language comprehension and word-problem solving by the test method: “Mathematical Language Proficiency Test for the First-grade Children” (Liu, Shunxing, 2008) and the questionnaire: “The Personal Information Questionnaire Designed for the New inhabitants of Vietnamese mother and children”. Furthermore, the research analyzes the mathematical performance of the Vietnamese children with different background factors. Finally, the study also discussed if there is difference between the Vietnamese and Taiwanese children in the mathematics performance. The research objects are 30 first-grade Vietnamese children and 30 Taiwanese children of the elementary school in Chunghua. The results show that there is strong correlation between math language comprehension and math word-problem solving abilities of the Vietnamese children. Moreover, there are significant differences in the performance of mathematical language comprehension when children with different background factors such as schoolwork achievements, after-school place, maternal age and father’s education. Also, there are significant differences in the performance of the math word-problem solving and math language abilities when children with different background factors such as schoolwork achievements and job types of mother. 　　In addition, there is no significant difference between the performance of Vietnamese and Taiwanese children in the math word-problems and mathematical language comprehension.
