Abstract
The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship of teachers’ perception between principals’ leadership behavior and teachers’ job involvement in elementary schools in Taichung County; and then, to analyze how the status of teachers perceive the principals' leadership behavior and teachers' job involvement varied according to the variables of teachers’ backgrounds, and further to understand the correlation between teachers' perception of the principals' leadership behavior and teachers' job involvement.
The study was conducted through questionnaire survey. According to literature review, the “The Questionnaire of Relationship of Teachers’ Perception between Principals’ Leadership Behavior and Teachers’ Job Involvement in Elementary Schools” was made, and 524 people from 57 public elementary schools in Taichung County were served as samples. From those collected 500 questionnaires, 480 samples were valid with applicable rate of 91.60%. The collected data was analyzed by way of average, standard deviation, t-test, one-way ANOVA, and Pearson cross-product correlation.
The conclusions of this study were as follows:
1. The status of teachers’ perception of principals’ concerns-leadership behavior and initiation-leadership behavior in elementary schools in Taichung County were above average .
2. The status of teachers’ job agreement, concentration and involvement in elementary schools in Taichung County were high. The status of teachers’ job involvement, evaluation, and pleasure were above average.
3. There were significant differences between teachers’ perception of principals’ leadership behavior on the whole and aspects in elementary schools in Taichung County in terms of teachers’ background variables (teachers’ sexes, ages, positions, school areas, school sizes, and school history.)
4. There were significant differences between teachers’ job involvement on the whole and aspects in elementary schools in Taichung County in terms of teachers’ background variables (teachers’ ages, seniority, school areas, school sizes, and school history.)
5. There was a significant and positive correlation between principals’ leadership behavior and teachers’ job involvement in elementary schools in Taichung County.
According to the conclusions of study, some suggestions were presented to teachers, principals, educational administrations, and future researchers.
