Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺中教育大學 === 區域與社會發展學系碩士班 === 99 === The purpose of this study was to investigate the impacts of tourism development perceived by residents in Dakeng Scenic Area and examined whether local residents with different variables had different perceptions of the impacts. The results were expected to be a reference for decision-making on tourism development in this area. The tourism resources and current tourism development in Dakeng Scenic Area were explored using field observation, questionnaire survey, and interview. The questionnaire consisted of three sections, including basic data, perceived impacts of tourism, and opinions about tourism development. A total of 410 valid responses were obtained. The responses were analyzed on SPSS using various methods, including descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, factor analysis, and product-moment correlation. Results showed: (1) Overall, local residents had positive perceptions about the impact of tourism in the area. Economic impact was the main positive impact of tourism, and substantial environmental impact was the main negative impact of tourism. Through factor analysis, five factors of the impacts of tourism were obtained, including environmental damage, economic income, community support, public environment, and economic development. (2) The perceived impacts of tourism significantly varied by residents’ basic attributes. (3) Local residents’ perceptions of the impacts of tourism significantly varied by their engagement in the tourism business and frequency of visitor contacts. (4) Local residents had an optimistic attitude toward the tourism business. Based on survey and interview results, this study proposed the following strategies for tourism development: (1) a comprehensive plan for tourism development should be set up; (2) improvement in traffic and landscape aspects should be prioritized; (3) visitor information centers should be set up at major entrances to the scenic area; (4) a market of local agricultural products should be set up; (5) in the coping with vendors, authorities concerned can use more “encouragement” than “law enforcement” to achieve the goal of sustainable development of Dakeng Scenic Area.
