Guguan locates in Heping district, Taichung city. In the past, Guguan was famous for hot spring and also was an important gateway of the Central Cross-Island Highwday. So, it became a very popular scenic spot of traveling. Tourism Bureau implementrff the year of 1999 as the first year of Taiwan hot spring tourism, listrf Guguan as one of prioritizes for the near future development.
Owing to the 921 earthquake,the Central Cross-Island Highwday broke off. Guguan transformed from relay station to the the terminal station for tourists. The traveling development of Guguan changed siginificantly resulted from natural disaster.
Tourism Bureau set up Mt. Shitou, Lishan, and Mt. Bagua as “the Specific Three mountains of National Scenery for Tourism Bureau” in 2001. Guguan was officially listed the arranging area of the Three Mountains of National Scenery.
The study explores the current traveling resources and the present situation of Guguan area by literature review, field investigation, Depth interview, and the tourists questionnaires. It also investigates how the natural disasters influenced the tourism development of Guguan area. Furthermore, it analyzes the traveling potential of Guguan area and proposes a few suggestions for the its future development.In conclusion, the study finds out the following advantages for the tourism development of Guguan area.
Guguan possesses the high quality of the Carbonic acid hot spring, hundred-years history of hot spring opening-up, the good natural environment, the fresh air, and the good quaility of water, and the comfortable temperature.
It also owns abundant resources of animals and plants and several hiking trails to develop ecotourism.The Civil society organization positively promote the Leisure tourism and finds out more potential resources of tourism.
Based on the results of the study, some suggestions was proposed for the development of tourism in Guguan area. The study was expected to have benefits for promoting the tourism of Guguan area.
