Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立屏東教育大學 === 視覺藝術教育學系 === 99 === “Tattoo” has been giving negative impression to people in Chinese society; however, it holds a superior position in Chinese history. It was once a performance of art between commoners and nobles during the Tang and Song dynasties. Therefore, this change and what had made it change are what this study focuses on. Tang (618-907 AD) is a highly blended dynasty. It has the compatible quality in culture, politics, and art performance. After Tang, China stepped into a chaotic age called Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms (907-979 AD). The short lasting countries and occupations of warlords were totally different from the stability of Tang, and the tangle had not been finished until Emperor Taizu Zhao Kuangyin (927-976 AD) unified China and founded Song dynasty. This unification not only gave the Chinese a break in culture, politics, economy, and art, but also developed the tattoo art and changed people’s opinions on tattoo. This study follows the process of Historical Reach Method, Reference Analysis Method, and style modeling methodology, and it applies the genres, styles, and development of tattoo art. This research has generalized 1) What did the tattoos mean to their owners. 2) The functions that people had tattoos on themselves. 3) The popular tattoo patterns in Tang dynasty. 4) The relation and inference between the prosperity of ganglands and tattoos on street kids. 5) The description and coordination of tattoo in the novel Outlaws of the Marsh. 6) The relation among tattoo behavior, culture, environment, and custom. This study has found that tattoo was once considered a mysterious, forbidden, and worshipping culture. However, after Zhou dynasty had changed it into a penalty, tattoo was given a negative impression by Chinese people. Until Tang and Song dynasties, tattoo gradually displayed its culture meaning into beauty appreciation and decoration because of culture exchange with other countries. Moreover, Japan, a neighbor to China, was influenced and developed a special style of tattoo. Nowadays, the art of tattoo is different from those past dynasties. It contains some contradictories, that is to say, people favor its modern and beauty, while they still hold negative attitudes toward it. The art of tattoo, therefore, is performing in different ways from other arts.
