Summary: | 碩士 === 國立屏東教育大學 === 教育學系 === 99 === The main purpose of this study is to promote elementary pupils’ learning effectiveness of astronomy education by adopting the STS (Science Technology Society) instructional model.
The main research is a quasi-experimental design, and the participants of the
study are 32 elementary pupils of fifth grade in three classes of two schools at Paiwan living areas in Pingtung county. Two of them are experimental group, implemented astronomy teaching with STS instructional model; the other is control group, implemented with didactic instruction. STS instructional model emphases
society issues related to astronomy and adopts stellarium and wjsu free softwares in the experimental classes; whereas the traditional instruction uses didactic instruction in the control group.
The research instruments of the study are “Astronomy Achievement Test (AAT)” and “Scale for Attitude towards Astronomy (SATA)”. Both of the groups have to take the pre-test before learning and the post-test after 8 weeks of learning with the two instruments. To compare the learning effectiveness between these two groups, statistical methods such as “One-Way ANOVA"and “T-test"were used.
Finally, 18 students for semi-structured interviews to understand the astronomical views of learning after the teaching module.
The major findings are as follows:
(1). In “Astronomy Achievement Test (AAT)”, the results presented that both
didactic instruction and STS instructional model can promote elementary
pupils’cognitive presentation of astronomy education effectively. But according to
the total expression, STS instruction is more helpful for promoting
pupils’cognition about star observation than didactic instruction.
(2). In “Scale for Attitude towards Astronomy (SATA)”, it was found that pupils'
attitude towards astronomy in experimental group has significant promotion after
STS instruction, while that of control group has no significant change after didactic
instruction. It is presented that carrying out STS instruction can promote the
pupils’attitude towards astronomy effectively.
Finally, the researcher proposed some suggestions for school teachers and researchers for further study.
