Summary:碩士 === 國立屏東教育大學 === 幼兒教育學系 === 99 === The objective of this study was to investigate the relationship between professional development and professional competencies among kindergarten teachers. To achieve this objective, a questionnaire survey was conducted. The research instrument was a self-developed questionnaire, “Survey on Professional Development and Professional Competencies of Kindergarten Teachers”. This survey was administered to 262 kindergarten teachers selected using stratified cluster sampling method from kindergartens in Kaohsiung City, Pingtung City, and Pingtung county. The collected responses were analyzed using methods including descriptive statistics, t-test, and one-way ANOVA. The main findings were as follows: 1. The professional development and professional competencies of the kindergarten teachers were generally good: The kindergarten teachers had a high level of professional development (M=3.36), extremely stressed the importance of professional competencies (M=4.45), and also perceived a high level of professional competencies in them (M=3.65). 2. The kindergarten teachers’ professional development was mainly affected by factors including kindergarten attributes, age, length of service, position, and geographical location. 3. The level to which the kindergarten teachers paid attention to their professional competencies was mainly affected by factors including kindergarten attribute, length of service, and position. 4. The kindergarten teachers’ perception of their professional competencies was mainly affected by factors including age, length of service, position, and geographical location. 5. Professional development was positively related to professional competencies. Finally, based on research results, this study proposed some suggestions to institutions concerned with early childhood education, early childhood educators, and future researchers.
