This study adopted a questionnaire survey method. A total of 400 questionnaires were returned; and 368 questionnaires were valid. The research instrument used in this study was "Questionnaire of life meaning, life pressure and depression tendency for the elderly" The collected data were analyzed by t-test one-way ANOVA (independent), Pearson product-moment correlation and multiple stepwise regression analysis. The results of the study were as follows: 1. The elderly in central Taiwan had moderate degree of life meaning and overall performance; in the life pressures aspect, self-pressure was perceived the most; in the depression tendency aspect, the elderly had severe depression tendency. 2. The female had higher score of life meaning than that of male. 3. There were differences of life meaning and life pressure between the elderly with different education levels. 4. There was difference of family pressure between the elderly with different ages. 5. Female had higher depression tendency than that of male. 6. The higher score of life meaning the elderly got, the lower score of life pressure and depression tendency they had. 7. The higher life pressure the elderly got, the more serious of depression tendency they had. 8. The life meaning and life pressure could partly predict depression tendency for the elderly. The results of this study could provide better understand of life meaning, life pressure, and depression tendency for the elderly. The researcher anticipated that the study could offer the public, social education workers and government to refer the results, and could be beneficial to promote the life quality of the elderly.
