Today film can span three to four hours, leading the audience on a trip through an alternative life thanks to selective editing. Pudovkin, a major figure in the Russian film industry, once said: "The basic principle of film is editing. " Since the beginning of film history many great directors and estheticians have committed to phrasing editing techniques and understanding their psychology effects. Editing gives film its aesthetic aspect. Editing makes story-telling more concise and less dull. Editing has become an irreplaceable entertainment for modern society. Because editing has lead to the differentiation of film genres, in particular, actions films have pushed editing techniques to new heights because actions films require editing expertise to stream-line the action elements. Mainstream director Tony Scott, has a daring editing style that always keeps the audience hooked. Tony Scott always had the courage to display his bold visual style while holding top-spot in the commercial film industry. Extravagant visual techniques and eye-dazzling editing has come to represent Tony Scott. Through this paper the author seeks to categorize Tony Scott's editing techniques into the following:
(1) Increase plot strength using insert shot and coverage.
(2) Give additional dynamic to motions using rapid shot as an editing technique.
(3) Visually effective jump shots, dissolve, and quick consecutive white flashes give the film high visual style.
