correlations among the meaning of life, life stress and depression of junior high school students in Kaohsiung and Pingtong areas. The main purpose of this thesis aimed to explore the following items: (1) the correlations among the meaning of life, life stress and depression of junior high school students; (2) the comparison of differences among the meaning of life, life stress and depression of junior high school students;(3) the relationship among the meaning of life, life stress and depression of junior high school students; (4) the predictability of the meaning of life and life stress towards depression tendency of junior high school students.
This study adopted the method of questionnaire survey and took junior high school students in Kaohsiung and Pingtong areas in this study. The effective samples were 922 questionnaires in total. The research tools included” Life Attitude Profiles, Life Stress Scales and Depression Scales”. The instruments contained “Descriptive statistics, T-test, one-way ANOVA, Scheffe’s posteriori comparisons , Pearson’s product-moment correlation and stepwise multiple regression”.
The main conclusions were list below:
1.The meaning in life of junior high school students in
Kaohsiung and Pingtong areas
was in the upper level,and “the value of life ”is the
highest degree.
2.The life stress of junior high school students in
Kaohsiung and Pingtong areas were slightly less than
moderate, and “career development”of life stress were
the greatest.
3.The depression of junior high school students in
Kaohsiung and Pingtong areas was not high, and
“Irritability of depression was the highest degree.
4.Junior girls’meaning of life, life stress and depression
were higher than junior boys.
5.Students in the third grade of junior high had more life
stress and depression than students in the first grades.
6.Students in other family structure of junior high had
less “ value of life ”but moer“career development”of
life stress and depression than students in two-parent
families.
7.Students with lower socio-economic status had less
meaning of life, but more life stress and depression than
students with higher socio-economic status.
8.Students which parents had used“authoritative”
discipline had more meaning of life but less life stress
and depression than students which parents had used
“closed authoritive” and “neglect” discipline
9.There were significant negative correlations among
meaning of life and life stress.
10.There were significant negative correlations among
meaning of life and depression.
11.There were significant positive correlations among life
stress and depression.
12.The predictability of meaning of life and life stress
towards depression was found in the result.
