To explore the impact of various backgrounds on positive mentality, peer relationships and the sense of life meaning. This study also assessed the influence of positive mentality and peer relationships on the sense of life meaning in junior high school students. Questionnaire survey method was used in this study. With self-designed questionnaire of “Life Experiences of Junior High School Students in Kaohsiung City” as a research tool. Adopting 989 junior high school students in total from 7th grade to 9th grade in Kaohisung area during 2010 school year, including 497 boy students and 491 girl students. The collected data were analyzed by using the statistical methods of descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson Product-moment correlation and Stepwise Regression Procedure. The main conclusions of this study were as follows: 1. The positive mentality of Kaohsiung city junior high school students was approximately good. 2. The peer relationships of Kaohsiung city junior high school students was fair. 3. The sense of life meaning of Kaohsiung city junior high school students was good. 4. There was a significant difference on Kaohsiung city junior high school students’ positive mentality. Students in two-parent families, with democratic parenting style, and engage 7 hours to 9 hours for leisure activities every week demonstrated the highest positive mentality. 5. There was a significant difference on Kaohsiung city junior high school students’ peer relationships. Girl students with democratic parenting style showed the best peer relationships among their schoolmates. 6. There was a significant difference on Kaohsiung city junior high school students’ sense of life meaning. Girl students with democratic parenting style, and engage 4 hours to 6 hours for leisure activities every week displayed the highest sense of life meaning. 7. There was a significant positive correlation among the positive mentality, peer relationships and the sense of life meaning of junior high school students. 8. The positive mentality and peer relationships were predictable to the sense of life meaning, in which “positive emotion” was the most effective factor. Based on the data analysis results, this study provided suggestions respectively on educational administrative organizations, schools, teachers, parents and future studies.
