| Summary: | 碩士 === 國立高雄師範大學 === 教育學系 === 99 === Lee Sun-Don is a pioneer in totemic energy oil painting. The innovative painting style embodies Buddhist dharma and captures mind-awakening power. As this study aims at analyzing the creative background of Lee Sun-Don’s totemic energy oil painting, the style of totemic energy oil painting is interpreted and the significance of Diamond Sutra series works explored. To accomplish these research purposes, this study adopts literature review, iconology and interviews as the research approaches. The conclusions of this study are as follows:
1.To take refuge in Buddhism under the mentorship of Yuan-Dao Bodhisattva is an important turning point for Lee Sun-Don.
2.The core spirit of Lee Sun-Don’s creativity is based on an unceasing, elevating philosophy and buddhahood.
3.The most important creative concept in Lee Sun-Don’s works is that all sentient beings have buddhahood within them.
4.The style of his works and creative theory until now have still not been explicated, and the content is diverse and unique .
5.He developed sixteen kinds of drawing techniques with new tools.
6.The Diamond Sutra series works send the message that all sentient beings have inherent buddhahood and should make an effort to realize immortal life.
7.By viewing the paintings, people realize that grasping the truth of life only occurs through aggressive action.
In the Venice Biennale 2009, Lee Sun-Don broke the barriers of language and culture; he transmitted his message through totemic energy oil painting, that all sentient beings have the ability to uncover their buddhahood, and look for ultimate truth internally.
