This thesis discuss is divided into the following aspects: the biography of Lansky, the development of marimba, the background information and analysis of this work, the author’s interpretation and suggestions of this composition, and finally, analyze comparative analysis of this piece with its closely related work Hop by Lansky.
Although Three Moves for Marimba had only been composed for 13 years, the factors of difficulty on skills, control of music progressions, special rhythms…etc., made this work a popular piece in CD recording by many marimba players, and is also the assigned piece in several international marimba competitions. That shows the importance of this piece in marimba solo repertoire. The author hopes to understand in many aspects through this thesis, and through the explanation of composer and author’s interpretation, point of view, hope to present the depth of this piece.
