In late 1980s, after the disintegration of Communist Eastern Bloc, the end of Iran-Iraq wars as well as the development of globalization, a large number of immigrants flooded into Germany. Over the past 10 years, with the increasing immigrant population, the issue of their integration into the local German society has become the focus of public opinions. To address the issue of the escalating tensions between diversified ethnic groups, German Federal Government considers the integration of immigrants into the society as one of core projects of internal affairs. Through the implementation of “The National Integration Plan”, the government wishes to show their determination to solve the problem by taking concrete actions. Similarly, Taiwan has also faced various immigrant problems like integration of immigrants into the new society, the education of children of immigrants and the life adjustment of female immigrants. How to accept the diversified values of different ethnic groups, prevent ethnic conflicts emerging in the Taiwanese society and provide all ethnic groups with a fair opportunity for their life and development is the most important issue the society and authorities should address. The Taiwanese society may learn the lessons from the immigrant problems Germany has encountered and the policy German government has adopted on the integration of immigrants into the new society. By translating “The National Integration Plan” into Chinese, this study aimed to introduce German policy of cross-field cooperation in immigrant integration to Taiwan government and the public for future reference to developing immigrant-related policies. This paper analyzes and gives comments on the problems the translator (the author of this article) encountered during the process of translation. It is divided into five chapters: the first chapter states the background, motivation and purposes of selection of immigrant integration as the subject matter of this paper; the second chapter introduces the background and contents of the original work, translation theory of Katharina Reiß and the stylistic features of government documents as well as translation strategies. The third chapter discusses the special problems encountered in the process of translation and the translation methods this paper used. The fourth chapter summarizes the difficulties in translating political documents and provides suitable translation suggestions. Jau-chaang Mon 孟昭昶 2011 學位論文 ; thesis 313 |
