This study strives to provide some  more useful information in this domain. Each of 11 Chinese-Japanese bilingual students, ranging in age from kindergarten to senior high school, was administered a questionnaire and a test paper with a total of 30 different pictures. The parents of the test subjects were asked to record their children’s answers, both in Japanese and in Chinese, to the questions. The collected data were analyzed and the results obtained were integrated with studies on monolingual (either Japanese or Chinese) children’s acquiring of measure words in order to know whether this learning process works differently on groups with different language backgrounds, and if so, how. The major findings of this research are as follows: 1. There’s no significant difference between the monolingual students and bilingual ones in terms of when they first acquire the most commonly used measure words such as「個」in Chinese and「個」、「つ」in Japanese. The bilingual students also tend to overuse both of them. 2. Constrained by the Chinese grammatical rules, the bilingual students are more susceptible to misusing「個」counting 「人」in Japanese. . 3. Due to the different learning systems of measure words in Chinese and Japanese, it seems more difficult for bilingual students to learn about the subject the prototype classifier categories 4. While 「隻」 in the Chinese language is applicable for almost any animal, in Japanese 「匹」is only used for smaller ones. However, bilingual children used「匹」 to expand the range for larger animals, like “elephants”, for that reason acquiring of the quantifiers 「匹」、「頭」fall behind.
