Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立新竹教育大學 === 人資處語文教學碩士班 === 99 === “Folk writing” marks an important milepost in Taiwanese prose in the 80s. Many well-known writers plunged into folk writing. Among all, A-Sheng expressed the most grassrooted feelings in his writings and showed his concern for the nature, humanity, and ethics. Through the making of his characters, he presented his views of human nature and traditional values, and showed his adamant life attitudes in his down-to-earth writing. The emphasis of this paper is to explore the artistic expression and values of folk characters in A-Sheng’s prose. The paper is divided into eight chapters, and the purpose of each chapter is stated as follows: Chapter 1 “Introduction”: It states the research purposes and motives, the current research, research scope, research methods, and research frameworks. Chapter 2 “The formation of A-Sheng’s literature and his development trajectory”: It describes A-Sheng’s personal life and background for prose-writing and investigates his art creation. Chapter 3 “Sentiment feelings for family love”: It explores A-Sheng’s intimate feelings toward elders, parents, and siblings. Chapter 4 “Appreciation for friends and neighbors”: It investigates how A-Sheng cherished his friends and how he showed his gratitude to relatives, neighbors, and local people, weaving the idea of warm humanity into his prose. Chapter 5 “Sarcasm and contempt for the social elite”: It examines A-Sheng’s personal experiences and his calm observation for the society as a bystander. In his prose, he portrayed human beings’ weakness and greed for fame and reputation. Chapter 6 “Concern and empathy for the people who live at the bottom of society”: It vividly presents common citizens’ collective images. Chapter 7 “The self-consciousness and performance art in A-Sheng’s folk writing”: It discusses the self-consciousness of the characters in A-sheng’s prose, including the spiritual, conceptual, human, and moral dimension, and depicts the methods he used to express his unique emphasis on unearthing the beauty of the ordinary. Chapter 8 “Conclusion”: It summarizes the previous seven chapters, and evaluates the value and meaning of A-Sheng’s work in the literary history. This study demonstrates that the roles created by A-Sheng are diverse, which leads us to see the complexity of society and the clash of various social ideologies. Through the making of plain roles, A-Sheng indirectly showed his values, life philosophy, and literary creation ideas.
