This study focuses on the analyses of radial stiffness of angular contact ball bearings and the dynamic characteristics of the spindle- bearing system. Initially, the angular contact ball bearings are discussed. According to Hertz contact theory, the relation of axial preload and the radial stiffness of angular contact ball bearings is calculated by using Jones and Harris methods. Finally, the bearing radial stiffness will be involved in the spindle-bearing system. The dynamic parameters, natural frequencies and mode shapes, are obtained by using finite element analysis and experimental modal analysis.
