We use variational approach to investigate Turing patterns and various types of standing waves . In the study of standing waves joining with two equilibria ,we obtain heteroclinic orbits of certain Hamiltonian systems .We further consider heteroclinic orbits of elliptic partial differential equations on infinite cylinders . Of particular interest is standing wave joining with Turing patterns .
