The laser characteristics such as threshold current and gain spectrum have been studied by numerical simulation. First, a small spike is added in each identical quantum wells. An increased threshold current and a blue shift in lasing wavelength are observed. The small disturbance is also employed in asymmetric quantum wells. Carrier distribution among wells of different width is more even and a wide and smooth gain spectrum can be achieved.
