The purposes of this study were as follows: To investigate the effects of free software teaching activity on eight grade students’ computer learning achievement and computer attitude. To analyze the content of work sheet in order to analyze students' feeling and thoughts by using free software questionnaires survey. Finally, to explore the problems in free software teaching activity and the solutions as reference resources for further research and teaching application. “The nonequivalent-groups pretest-posttest design” was used in this study. The treatment group consisted of 34 subjects took curriculum with free software teaching activity and the control group consisted of 34 subjects took curriculum with the commercial software teaching activity. Both classes were taught by the researcher for 16 weeks. The researcher adopted one way analysis of variance to test Hypothesis 1 and Hypothesis 2. The statistics of percentage were carried out by the half open-ended questions. The conclusions and results of this study were as follows: 1. There was no significant difference on the scores of the computer learning achievement and computers attitude between the two groups. 2. The work sheets reflect students’ comprehend concepts, help students to record their own feedback, analyses and make a self-examination. Besides, it can be the tool between teachers and students, and it was a diagnostic tool for teaching. 3. Most of the students had positive attitude to free software teaching activity , they considered that free software was free、lawful, and it was be worth to download. 4. The problems confronted by the researcher in doing free software teaching activity: student responded that the computer was be unstable ,some students responded that work sheet writing will take up their recess time, and the increasing amount of teacher’s teaching load. At last, according to the conclusions of the study, the researcher made some suggestions as reference resources of the effects of free software teaching activity on Information Education for junior high schools and the further researches.
