Relation between Mental Toughness and Passion among Basketball Players with Different Backgrounds

碩士 === 國立體育大學 === 教練研究所 === 99 === The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between mental toughness and passion among basketball players with different backgrounds. The research method applied questionnaire approach. Participants were 197 Class-A high school basketball players (mean age = 17.17 +1.02). the difference of National team experience, major injury, and continuous trainings on mental toughness and passion were analyzed by t-test; regarding to school year, years of trainings, and daily training hours, one-way ANOVA were examined. Additionally Pearson's product-moment correlation was used to examine the correlation between mental toughness and passion of participants (α=.05). The results suggested that, first, the years of training had significant effects on the anti-pressure and harmonious passion of participants; second, the daily training hours had significant effects on endurance, obsessive passion, and harmonious passion of participants; and third, experience in national team, suffered from major injury, continuous training, and school years had no significant effects on positive effort, anti-pressure, endurance, obsessive passion, and harmonious passion of participants. As for the correlation between mental toughness and passion, the results indicated that, first, obsessive passion, anti-pressure, and endurance were moderately positively related; second, harmonious passion, positive effort, anti-pressure, and endurance were moderately positively related. The conclusion revealed that, differences were only found in some part of demographic variables on mental toughness and passion. Furthermore, sub-constructs of mental toughness and passion were generally presented positive association. It's worthy of further investigation for examining the other background variable, while research focused on the causal relationship between these two concepts is also recommended.
