Summary: | 碩士 === 國立成功大學 === 藝術研究所 === 99 === The purpose of this article is to research the early years of the Republic of China -- the painter Pan Yuliang. Pan Yuliang’s self-portraits used different media to disclose the performances of distinct vision vision which where about gender perspective and national consciousness. The method in the research adapts Cultural studies to interprent her gender identity and the issues about national identity. Such as the subject / the object; I were / the other were; homeland / another country; male / female. The direction of the research is focus on the styles of Pan Yuliang’s self-portraits; her life story; the development of painting in eastern China and Western countries at that time. By means of her self-portraits revealed the images of vocabularies about the self identity; gender identity; national identity, and social identity. These issues about identities and image analysis to identify the intertextual and reveal the token reflection. So the research besides analyzing the works of Pan Yuliang’s self-portraits, the developing style changes of her works and we can understand the changing of her female consciousness. The outstanding achievement in art and self-portraits of Pan Yuliang surely will be a status in the history of the Chinese female artists.
The findings of this study are as follows:
1.A woman who lived between the east and the west. The identity as a Chinese women living in the western country was difficult and pain for her to stand. Different societies and cultures made her belong to the edge of the society and the fracture of gender and national identities.
2.Pan Yuliang's self-portraits showed the contradiction of her inner mind. She wanted to consist with the standard of the custom, but also wanted to escape from the constraint of the custom, but also wanted to escape from the constraint of the society. Her life showed a real living of a Chinese woman.
3.From oil painting to colored Chinese painting, Pan Yuliang’s showed the contradiction of her inner mind. She wanted to consist with the standard of the custom, but also wanted to escape from the constraint of the society. Her life showed a real Living of a Chinese women.
4.From the first time came back to China to the second time Pan Yuliang returned to France. Herself portraits had very markedly enhancement in national consciousness.
5.As being a Chinese female artist, Pan Yuliang was the first one who had great courage to change the point of view of art to females’ status. Srely she will have her own stage in Chinese art .
To make an end about this article, the main aim of it is to find the reality, in constraint and seek for free various views about art and Aesthetics.
