Agriculture is the main activity in the rural villages, and the water quality is susceptible to polluting if lacking of best management practices. This study used digital terrain model, land use, and other information to quantify environmental index for the references of resources conservation and green environment of the rural communities. Establishment of each index coupled with on-site investigation of water quality sampled at the inlets and outlets of the main channels and two steps of processes were employed in this study by using ward’s hierarchical and non-hierarchical K-Means analysis to classify the rural communities to explore the pollution status for the references of planning the projects of rural village development. The basic information and related environmental index of eighteen rural communities are collected and analyzed to understand the effects of land use and topography on water quality for the classified communities. The results show that the rural communities classified into three categories can effectively reflect the characteristics of rural community on the water quality. The polluted communities have the properties of low altitude, gentle terrain, and serious development in the riparian areas. This study focuses on the green and water storage, resource conservation at the regions of living, product and ecology of the rural communities. Each selected rural community regards as an analysis unit by means of assessing the environment conditions, water resource conservation, land use, status of conservation and protected objected to quantify the facing problems and or benefits of conservation treatments for the reference of regional planning in the vitalized rural community.
