The vegetation roots have the similar effect to promote the bare mudstone strength at mudstone area. It is rare that the study of root system, root type and its influence on the vegetated slope. In such circumstances, this study attends to the numerical simulation and root investigations that would be helpful to evaluate the stability of vegetated slope with Thorn bamboo root system. Observe the distribution and structure of Thorn Bamboos’ root system by use Profile wall methods(1 m × 1 m × 1 m), and survey the mechanics characteristics of Thorn Bamboo roots. The results of root segment tensile resistance test of the fibrous roots of Thorn Bamboo are that the average root diameter is 2.25 mm, the average segment resistance is 36.39×10-3 kN and the average Young’s modulus is 395.1 kPa. The root profile shows that there are abundant fibrous roots within 1.5 m subsurface. The newborn bamboo is grow from the bamboo based. And supplying the function of solidifying soil on slope by it’s the high density fibrous root system. Using Plaxis 3D to simulate the stability of mudstone slope erosion. The arching is inversely proportional to the root spacing. It’s obviously that the soil consolidation capability of Thorn Bamboo roots as the spacing is 7 m. Finally, synthesize the field investigation and the situation of slope erosion to draw the diagram of follow up erosion process in mudstone area with Thorn Bamboo forest.
