Theory from Euler’s (1744) formula, tangent modulus theory, Shanley''s (1946) theory, Bleich’s (1952) column behavior theory until the proposed formula for the parabolic nonlinear buckling of compression members are used to analyze the buckling strength. AISC (2005) Specification combined the ASD (1989) and LRFD (1986, 1993, 1999) to modify the specification of the research results, providing analysis and design of compression members of the formula. This study focus on ASD (1989), LRFD (1999) and AISC (2005) of column members to do a complete analysis of the formula’s derivation, organization and description, comparison to ASD (1989), LRFD (1999) and AISC (2005) of stiffness reduction factor (SRF). Comparison of AISC (2005) and French Codes of the effective length factor (K) difference. Detailed demonstration of examples illustrate the analysis and design of steel columns and spirit of the basic concepts and to explore, analyze and compare ASD (1989), LRFD (1999), ASD (2005) and other specifications, engineers expect the industry has been in use when the AISC Specification follows and helps.
