Direct stiffness method is implemented by the matrix algebra operation, the CAL-90 and SSTAN being employed to the demonstration examples to proceed with the analysis and the results are compared. The results can be drawn as follows: 1. Execute and compare the 2-D analysis by using the CAL-90 and SSTAN teaching software. 2. Execute and compare the 3-D analysis by using the CAL-90 and SSTAN teaching software. 3. Ignoring the axial DOF could cause the wrong results of analysis. 4. An unstable structure could be run, however, the results are misleading. 5. Basically, the same results were found when using either the CAL-90 or the SSTAN.
