The proposed algorithm based on particle swarm optimization is firstly developed, then it is applied to two test systems. Particle swarm optimization has the characteristics that are agents and free memory. It has a high convergent speed and provides better solution for solving problem. This paper applied original particle swarm optimization, accelerative particle swarm optimization, constriction type particle swarm optimization to solve the problem of economic dispatch of co-generation systems. The proposed method has been applied to a test system with different demands. The results showed that particle swarm optimization algorithm is a feasible method that can quickly obtain good economic dispatch solutions of co-generation systems.
