In addition to revealing the local customs, by observing the detailed patterns in a cemetery, one can also discover information such as family background and social positions etc; this was a unique roadside landscape in early Taiwan. With the shift in funeral customs, burial is no longer the only choice, and this also has a direct impact on the land area and usage rate of traditional burial cemeteries. As a result, numerous burial cemeteries gradually began to be dilapidated and reduce in surface area. The study intends to conduct a survey and document the existing cemeteries in the Chang-hua area, from which the various elements causing the transformation of the cemeteries will be analyzed. In addition to leaving a record for the gradually vanishing unique landscape, useful strategies for cemetery renewal and future development will also be devised. The research is based on domestic international literature and actual case studies from cemetery developments, where opinions from all parties are gathered objectively and used as a blueprint for cemetery landscape analysis and future development and management recommendations.
