However, legacy information systems themselves contain a trove of system-related knowledge which, to the detriment of the project, is often neglected. Unfortunately, current methods in software engineering and applications often lack the ability to integrate legacy information systems into the new system development during the software development process. Therefore, by combining relevant methods from existing software maintenance, software re-engineering and system development processes, we develop a V-process Model. The V-process Model is unique in that it can quickly analyze legacy information systems, which can then be integrated into the new system development. The research project found that the V-process Model improves efficiency during the software development process and is effective in avoiding some common pitfalls faced by development teams, which is also attractive to businesses as it allows them to cut costs.
