This study discovered that previous research regarding industrial space creation and spatial transformation processes rarely discussed spatial development regarding post-disaster reconstruction (such as government action, spatial planning, and industry reconstruction). In the aftermath of the 512 Wenchuan earthquake, the Chinese government clearly demonstrated its great political efficiency and significant power of social mobilization in their assistance and reconstruction of the disaster areas to media across the globe. Following a “three-year reconstruction, and a rebuild completed (primarily) in two years,” the disaster areas performed their post-disaster spatial rehabilitation and a new image signifying a rapid economic growth. This study thus conducted a case study to examine the disaster areas, including Shuimo Township of Wenchuan County, Yingxiu Township of Wenchuan County, and Luping Village of Cifeng, Pengzhou City, using the field investigation method. From the perspective of post-disaster reconstruction, this study discusses changes in the rural land system under the integrated development of urban and rural areas, post-disaster industry reconstruction, operational organizations of local government, and other development models. The results well exemplify the special reconstruction planning in Sichuan, China. For example, the partnership assistance and local alliance mechanism were strategically applied to adapt industrial patterns, and mobilize public participation, creating an innovative industrial space and environmental landscape within the disaster areas. This can be considered a special kind of government action in post-disaster reconstruction planning, which altered the functions of local industrial space and restored the economy of the disaster-hit areas. We hope the findings of this study can serve as a reference in the planning of post-disaster urban reconstruction and the development of relevant policies in Taiwan.
