There are four main points: 1. The difference and correlation for understanding the organic industry among visited consumers from different backgrounds. 2. The difference and correlation for understanding the benefit effect of organic industry on environmental effect among visited consumers from different backgrounds. 3. The correlation of willingness to promote community organic agriculture, undertaking the environmental protection and the willingness to cultivate organic crops among visited consumers from different backgrounds. 4. To estimate the economic effect on the environment by promoting organic industry. The research is based on the questionnaires from the consumers in Tainan City and Yu-Lin County. The items contain personal information, the understanding of organic industry, the understanding of economic effect of organic industry on environment, and the value of organic agriculture products to the environmental resource. Total 730 questionnaires are issued and 618 questionnaires received are effective. The recovery percents are 84.66%. Descriptive statistics, independent sample T test, single variable analysis, Pearson correlation and probity regression analysis are used for statistical analysis. The results are shown as follows: 1. The consumers received the questionnaires have agreed to the concept and understanding of the organic industry and the economic effects on the environment from the organic industry. It means that the promotion of organic industry can achieve quite high economic returns. 2. No significant difference was observed for sex, martial status, education and family average income of the consumers in the concept and understanding of the organic industry and the economic effects on the environment from the organic industry. However, significant difference was observed for age, vocation, vegetarian, religion, monthly purchased frequency of the consumers and those purchasing organic products or not, willing in promoting organic industry, willing to pay for the environmental protection cost and willing to conduct organic production. 3. Based on the method of conditional evaluation, the economic effects of organic industry are estimated NT $25 million dollars. It is due to the current organic farms with only 0.17% of the total plantation areas in Tainan City and Yu-Lin County. In the future, if large scales of organic farming are fully extended in Tainan City and Yu-Lin Count, the estimated value of economic effects will be as high as NT$44,097,333,976 annually ( approximately NT$44.1 billion per year).
