Investigation on POSS Energy Management for Communication Base Stations

This thesis reports our study on Power Operation Supervisory System (POSS)[20]. It provides the real-time status and alarm messages of power related equipments for field engineers to understand and handle any situations as soon as possible. The system is used in Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) technology to communicate with equipment via several protocols, such as Modbus (Modicon Bus), Modbus/TCP, BACnet (Building Automation and Control Networks). It is connecting to offer diversity improvement services for internal used as well as enterprise customers and is able to deal with virtually all energy consumed systems which includes power equipments, Heating Ventilating and Air conditioning (HVAC) system, water supply and sewerage equipments, lighting devices, and environment monitoring devices[11]. Through the application of SCADA technology, it provides a complete solution for carbon reduction, and import related control interface, sensing devices, high reliability and stability of communication modes. To achieve its compliance with government policy to promote carbon reduction, it also provides energy saving policies to help enterprises in fulfilling the responsibility of a member of the global village. Moreover, it saves a lot of expense on manpower.
